Some People Can’t Eat Without Weed

It’s no secret that weed affects our appetite, even if you’ve never smoked weed in your life, chances are you’ve heard about the famous munchies.

Assuming you don’t know, munchies are that overwhelming urge to eat as much as humanly possible, right after having consumed marijuana.

This may sound pretty good to many, especially those who want to gain a few extra pounds, but did you know that some people can get to the point where they can’t eat without weed?

Undoubtedly not being able to eat without grass is a rather strange condition and usually only happens under certain specific characteristics, but don’t worry, it has an explanation and below we tell you everything we know about it.

Did You Know That Weed Affects Your Appetite?

Marijuana has been commonly used as an appetite stimulator for various eating disorders, but until recently it was not really known how weed manages to manipulate our appetite.

However, thanks to the legalization of marijuana in several states across the country, neurobiologist Tamas Horvath and his team of researchers at Yale University have managed to deepen studies on the influence of weed on appetite and why there are people who can’t eat without weed.

The increase in appetite is due to THC and neuroreceptors that normally regulate the entry of food by removing the desire to eat, but nevertheless, when consuming weed, these neuroreceptors show an abnormal overactivity that ends up generating the sensation of hunger.

This same study has also shown that a greater or lesser activity of these neurons will be totally linked to the type of marijuana you consume.

People who consume weed with high CBD content will have a decreased appetite, while those who consume strains with high THC levels will experience an increased appetite after consuming marijuana.

Restores Appetite After Stopping The Use Of Weed

Not having an appetite can be frustrating for anyone, especially for us stoners who are used to those big munchies we get after consuming weed.

Although the symptoms of weed withdrawal usually pass fairly quickly, there are those of us who want to speed things up a bit to find relief as soon as possible.

Our friends at healthline.com have a couple of very good articles where they explain the most effective ways to reactivate our appetite, many of which are useful for our case, so be sure to put them into practice.

Trick your brain with different meal sizes: If you have a small appetite, seeing large portions of food won’t help you at all, so trick your brain into thinking it’s still eating small portions.

It can be as simple as simply serving your food on a larger plate, this trick relies on perspective and certainly helps when you’re still in that phase where you can’t eat without weed.

Eat more of your favorites: Let’s be honest, no matter what situation we’re in, whenever we have a food in front of us that we know we’re going to enjoy, you’re probably more inclined to eat it.

That’s what it’s all about, when you are in those days when you can’t eat without cannabis, you should try to stimulate yourself with those foods that are irresistible to you. However, if your favorite foods are not healthy, you should try as much as possible to make them much more nutritious.

Eat less fiber-rich foods: Even though fiber-rich foods are highly recommended for a balanced diet, when it comes to stimulating appetite it is something that should be put to one side.

Diets rich in fiber have been shown to promote satiety, as well as to slow digestion, ensuring that satiety is maintained for a longer period of time. Eating a low-fiber diet may keep you from feeling too full and may help you eat more during the day.

Conclusion

There could be many factors why you cannot eat without weed, including physical, mental and even medical conditions.

If you stopped or greatly reduced your daily consumption of weed and have since found it difficult to eat without marijuana, you may undoubtedly find yourself suffering from cannabis withdrawal.

But there is nothing to worry about, we know that these effects usually pass quickly and your appetite should be back very soon.

Either way, if you can’t eat without weed, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor, who can help you and advise you on how to deal with it.

  1. I can definitely attest to the power of the munchies. But the idea of not being able to eat without weed is concerning. I can’t imagine being so dependent on a substance just to have an appetite. I’ll still indulge in the occasional joint, but certainly won’t be letting myself get to the point where I can’t eat without weed.
